Golf Classic 2018

2018 Rotary Golf Classic

We are all looking forward to welcoming you to the Rotary Club of Chippenham’s 2018 Rotary Golf Classic, to be held on Thursday 26th April, 2018.

The day offers a great opportunity to play a challenging game of golf at the award winning Manor House Golf Club at Castle Coombe, which is located in splendid scenery on the edge of the Cotswold escarpment. The course is listed as the Number one course in Wiltshire and is included in the UK’s “Top 100 Golf Courses”.

This year’s event will follow our now successful format, with access to the driving range, coffee and a bacon roll to get you going, followed by a “shotgun” start, at this year’s slightly earlier time of 11.30 am, for a Texas Scramble medal competition. Buggies are included in the price and the day will be rounded off with the opportunity for a drink in the bar before the prize giving and a two course carvery dinner and coffee. This includes a charity auction with some stunning lots donated by local organisations. The £70 per person fee for all of the above is considerably cheaper than the usual cost of playing at this splendid course!

What a great opportunity to play a round of golf with friends, work colleagues, or to entertain some corporate guests. In addition to the two charity holes (Beat the Pro and “Stay on the Green”), the day will feature on-course competitions for the Straightest Drive and Nearest the Pin.

One of last year’s players recently told us; “I will definitely be booking the Rotary Golf day again next year. As only an occasional golfer, but quite competitive; golf can be a tricky day especially with clients as one of you wins and the other loses.  Whereas at the Rotary golf event, with the Texas Scramble format, it really brings your group together and is far better for team bonding and forming good partnership than other formats. As a result we all had a great day and can’t wait until next year.”

This  year  the  funds  will  be  donated  to  Waste  Not  Want  Not,  a  very  worthwhile Chippenham  based  charity.  They covers 12 of the top 20 deprived areas in Wiltshire, and help people that are financially disadvantaged to acquire, at affordable prices, the essential items for their home. Affordability is achieved by using a workforce of predominately volunteers and seeking funding towards running costs. This in effect keeps the price of goods within reach of people on  low  incomes.  Clients  are  typically  those  with  a  household  income  below  £20,000,  and  include  single  parents, pensioners, students and residents in social housing.

The charity also provides valuable work experience and volunteering opportunities to the local community. Volunteers include  those  on  Government  linked  training  schemes  for  the  long term  unemployed,  placements  from  specialist schools for pupils with special needs, adults with learning difficulties and people recovering from physical and mental health  issues.  They  are also  proud  to  provide  volunteering  opportunities  to  people  that  may  have  troubled backgrounds. These placements are arranged with the Probation Service and the Youth Offending Team.

We  already  have  a  number  of  excellent  lots  in  our  auction  which  will  be  supervised by  our  auctioneer  Gordon Brockman of Marlborough Auction Rooms – so bring your cheque book!  If you would like details of hole sponsorship, or if you are able to donate an item for the auction, please let me know.

An  entry  form  is available on request;  please  return  this  with  your payment as indicated. Many  thanks  for  your interest. We look forward to welcoming you to what we hope will be a fantastic day of golf and also a grand social occasion on 26th April. At the same time we aim to make a worthwhile contribution to an important local charity.
